Pride
In an effort to hone the community’s focus on one of the most critical issues impacting our youth, three of the Township’s prevention organizations announced today that they were combining forces. The joint venture is designed to ensure that youth have a leading role in protecting their peers form their devastating effects of alcohol and marijuana use.
The SAGA Coalition (Substance Awareness Greater Anderson), which has worked to leverage local, state and federal resources to address youth drug prevention, and the Anderson and Turpin High Schools PRIDE Youth programs, which have sought to promote drug free lifestyle choices among our youth, merged June 27, 2011.
The new partnership will empower youth to become advocates for law and policy change around the issues that most affect their lives at the local, state and national level.
This new partnership will offer youth the opportunity to:
- Expand their view of the community and their ability to affect it in a positive way.
- Gain greater understanding of the substance abuse issues in the community and new tools for dealing with these issues in their own lives.
- Gain skills they will need in order to become successful adults.
