Saga Mission Statement
Substance Awareness Greater Anderson (SAGA) is a group of committed members whose goal is to unite the Greater Anderson community in acknowledging, taking responsibility for and preventing the use of illegal drugs—and the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
Saga History
The SAGA (Substance Awareness Greater Anderson) Coalition was established in September 1995 as a working subcommittee of the Anderson Area Wellness Alliance in partnership with the Anderson Chamber of Commerce and the Forest Hills School District. In the spring of 1998, SAGA reorganized to strengthen leadership and increase impact through a board/committee structure. In 1999, we became an independent 501 (c) (3) community anti-drug coalition with umbrella support from the Anderson Area Wellness Alliance and Coalition for a Drug-Free Greater Cincinnati.
Our target population is the parents and school age youth of the Greater Anderson Township area including the Village of Newtown. Area students are largely enrolled in the Forest Hill Public School District but many attend parochial and private schools, some of which are also located within the Anderson area. Our local private schools and parochial schools draw students from Mount Washington and Mount Lookout as well as parts of Clermont County. Businesses serve a region that extends to the adjacent rural areas as well as parts of Northern Kentucky.
It is the mission of the SAGA Coalition to unite the Greater Anderson community in acknowledging, taking responsibility for, and preventing the use of illegal drugs and the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
